Heart of West Coast Mountain Bike Country
Stunningly located overlooking the Tasman Sea, in the heart of West Coast cycling and mountain bike country, Breakers is a great place to base yourself while you explore and experience some fantastic cycling options.

West Coast Wilderness Trail A great way to explore some fantastic diverse West Coast scenery is riding along the West Coast Wilderness Trail.  The trail runs from Greymouth to Ross in the south - some 136kms in total.  You can do do a section of it or ride all of it 2-4 days.  We can help arrange bike hire and portage.

Paparoa Track, New Zealand's 10th and newest Great Walk is at our doorstep - an easy 20 minute drive away and we are happy to help arrange shuttle transfers for you and your bike. You can choose to do just a day ride - riding from the Punakaiki end in and out to get an overview of the trail, or ride it in its entirity and stay overnight in one of the gorgeously situated huts.

Happy to help arrange portage for bikes, people or vehicles.

The Old Ghost Road and Heaphy Track are two true back country mountain bike trails showing some of the best scenery in New Zealand.  The Old Ghost Road is advanced riding and the Heaphy Track is intermediate.  There are huts on both tracks and here at Breakers we are happy to help arrange track transport.

Back Country Exploration
Stephen and Jan both mountain bike and love to share their knowledge of the area with their guests. You can mountain bike straight from Breakers to a couple of the local tracks or head into the hills for some real back country adventure and exploration. There is an abundance of gold and coal mining history on the Coast leaving some fantastic trails for exploration, together with great forestry roads and logging tracks.

Bike Hire
Colls Sports World in Greymouth have bikes available for hire and here at Breakers we are happy to organise the hire for you - just ensure you give us some notice.  We are happy to help with details if you wish to make an enquiry.

Historic Areas
Many of these tracks have historic value as they were initially made for the gold, forestry and coal industries and are now used mainly by hikers and bikers. The tracks and trails are generally well maintained benched, 4-wheel drive or single-track, best described as back country exploration. Throw in some purpose built mountain bike tracks and great forestry roads and you probably have the best region in the south island to be a biker in. Many of the tracks and trails will test your cycling skill and endurance and get you back to the essence of being a mountain biker. The numerous trails cover the whole spectrum of mountain biking be it fast flowing, technical, easy benched, rocky, creek crossings – you name it, depends on what you prefer and your skills. If it is more a sedate cycle ride you are after there are plenty of options for forestry roads and cycle trails.

Relaxing Beachfront Location
Enjoy a sunrise at Breakers up over the mountains, a hearty breakfast in the dining room with some great sea views and then head out for the day, morning or afternoon - time is yours. Stephen and Jan can help with suggestions and may even come along with you to share their favourite trails.

Come back to Breakers and enjoy a leisurely walk on the beach or sit back, relax and enjoy those fantastic sea views and a wonderful West Coast sunset out over the sea.
